I wish more people parented like Dwayne and Gabriel as he discusses in this video about supporting their daughter in her journey of life. This video is a repost from one of my favorite people on social media:
Reposted from @_lyneezy So I wasn’t aware that today was #transdayofvisibility. But I came across this post from the @iamathletepodcast from @alldaynicco . I shared it to my story but I think it’s something everybody needs to see. We need more of this, and I don’t have kids so I know this is much easier said or watched than done. But we need to get to a point where people loving their kids unconditionally isnt so much of a spectacle so it can become normalized. If we can start protecting black trans women and men when they’re children, maybe we won’t loose so many of them when they’re older.
Look at your child, whatever the issue, have you been in their way? I remember the day I birthed my daughter. I remember the days I first felt her inside me. My prayer has always been to be this kind of parent because I had to recover from how I was parented. On that healing journey, before I was 20, this song and these incredible beings' work was also written on my heart. On Children:
PLEASE, THE YOUTH ARE ALRIGHT... they just need the stability of your presence and your unique guidance for their life... Don't forget, it's their life you are stewarding... I have been praying for the Wades since I became aware of their journey. I am so glad for this testimony about parenting a human and honoring their potential... What do you know about what God is doing? Please get out of God's way too. If God's permissive will allows something, who are you to crush it? Who are we called to be in the earth? Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean God isn't doing it...
My heart breaks for you all who cannot embrace the true diversity of humanity.
That narrow and narcissistic thinking will die off soon, but not soon enough. Can we let people live? Who are you to control what was not given to you? The best you can do for those who pass through you is give them your best. Control is not in the recipe if we want to be like God. God gives us freewill, why can we not allow others to exercise theirs?
