I don't avoid conversations about politics/governing in my anti-racism education work because as I often say, this system has been built in and impacts in all areas of human activity.
Please do read Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson's dissent, she said it all. In all the coverage I am following about this latest decision by the SCOTUS, I have not heard anything about what stands out the most to me and it is not for Justice Jackson to say, if she sees it. It is for those of us outside of the ecosystem of the court, lest another risk their livelihood.
This photo speaks volumes about the construct of this system.
The suffragists wanted to share in the power that white landowning males have enjoyed over the history of this country. And Black men who believe the gaslighting of those who do not understand Affirmative Action, in this case, will align themselves with the power structure and against Black women. Those upholding equity and informed by how we have failed in this country's past and present hoping to rectify this lack of enfranchisement, are a Latina, a Jewish woman and a Black woman. The irony is not lost on me. So, as has always been the case, white women will continue to to be the top beneficiaries of Affirmative Action, codifying it further in policy. I have noticed that even in Inclusion and Diversity efforts, white skin privilege women are the top beneficiaries in these efforts as well. I hope more become aware of the whole story of this country. Ignoring major parts is undermining the greatness this place can be if we were willing to transform this practices. Please do read Justice Jackson's dissent.
