"Say their names" is not just a Black Lives Matter motto. It has deep roots in African and Jewish traditions. We say the names of our passed on to keep their spirit and legacy alive, not just to memorialize those who died unjustly. Do say their names and honor their memories... I am sure that it grew out of Nommo, a concept first introduced to me by one of my incredible influencers, Dr. Zizwe many years ago. I also believe it is how one honors their positive influences that are still living. It is like a prayer for them when you honor their work by naming them.
