The ongoing discussion of parties in government has become boring. I was inspired by a LEWD hussy to call the two parties of this system "Crest" and "Colgate" thirty years ago, and I was using Tom's back then. The country started without parties, and I get that made sense then, no need for factions when you are all operating in your same selfish interests. 🤷🏽♀️ Yes, I understand that they thought they were operating in the country's best interest but without everyone's interests at the table, there can only be those interests represented. Recently, I told someone that how you understand a problem is how you scope the solutions. The solutions of the past have missed the mark because everyone has not been at the table. If one considers the history of the country, you could see the beginning, the middle we are in, and the future that one faction has been seeming to try to hold back. For me, this goes all the way back to the fact that everywhere those coming out of Europe as plunderers went, they found BIPoC. That word minority is one of the big lies that scopes perspectives in the world, and frankly, the solutions.
The United States started by resting power in the hands of white land owning males. All of the rights of the country have been in their hands from the beginning. I have observed that throughout history, we have watched several groups wrestle and die to share in some parts of those rights accorded to "We the People of the United States". Either these "originalists" want a narrow and racist, sexist, etc... construct of society, or they will finally join with the rest of the majority of the country to perfect this union for everyone, and not just white people (men in particular).
Economically, the country swings between individualism/corporate trickle down greed (so it doesn't trickle) or throwing money at issues with corporate influences. Governing from the true middle of the sensibilities of the country has never happened. I believe the closest we have gotten is with every new Democratic Party administration. The minority worldview (white, male, corporatist, etc...) has always been the opposition to the average people. If they are to remake themselves, how will they serve, and stop manipulating people with bad faith arguments is a question they will need to answer. So far, neither party is great on race and class issues even though the Democrats have spoken a much better game about it, so many of us still wait while we work.
I would rather see the country create a great standard of living, benefitting from the strength that diversity affords and then the partisanship can be about how to best serve the people, not how to feed corporations and personal greed. Until then, the pendulum of change continues to take wide, economy frustrating swings. Swing, swing, swing...
Speaking of bad faith arguments
