A few months ago I discovered the practices facilitated by Resmaa Menakem while having a regular Sunday call with a friend who introduced me to My Grandmother’s Hands.

I ordered a signed copy of the book back then after watching a few videos of his interviews with many different people. I went through many of the links on his link.tree. I also took the free trainings he had on his website and downloaded a certificate that I can’t find right now. And the most impactful thing I did so far was to sign up to sit in Somatic Abolitionism 101.

I am post the training and retention space and haven’t felt more healthy and productive than I do now. I know that Resmaa’s intention is that we “metabolize trauma in order to use it for fuel” to live our lives. I am experiencing that!

I have been doing some kind of healing work for 39 years, and gained an understanding of racism as a system 30+ years ago through a workshop with Dr. Neely Fuller. I have seen therapists, been in trainings and nonetheless still felt burdened by some residual affects of my traumatic life experiences. I hadn’t needed another training on racism until I read How to Be an Antiracist by Dr. Ibram Kendi and discovered Somatic Abolitionism through a former version of Resmaa’s website. Through these practices and toys, I learned how to not just become good at taking the hits, I can Matrix them!!! LOL!

I experienced the difference through the practices I am learning and then began to understand that most of us probably only process experiences through 1-3 of our intelligences when Resmaa teaches about 6 intelligences. With all of that work I did leading up to meeting Somatic Abolitionism as he teaches, I experienced a seeming shampoo affect. It was if all the areas of my life I have been working in got metabolized when I started to consider all of my intelligences when processing my experiences!

Thank you for your work sibling! It is working for me! Your work is invaluable!

I am allowing the fact that I am not defective live in my life! Thank you Resmaa!

We can have a humane society for humans, and not just for pets.
